Hugo Ball described the artists of Dada seeking what is essential and what is spiritual. Dada was not a movement, but when Avant-garde, anarchistic artists of this age turn against traditional art. They broke the constraints of realism and began cutting up materials, combining and creating some of the earliest collages.
